چکیده

Introduction: Semicircular canal dehiscence (SCD) syndrome has been defined as a bone defect in the roof of the superior, posterior and lateral semicircular canals. We reported that three-dimension CT and MR imaging of superior SCD is rare in english literature. Case presentation: A 6-year-old boy patient presented with hearing loss and left facial nerve paresis since birth. CT and MR images demonstrated superior SCD causing congenital hearing loss. Discussion: Multidedector CT with multiplanar reconstruction and three-dimension volume rendered imaging is an excellent imaging method to detect this defect. MR imaging should be preferred in the demonstration of the cranial nerves and relationship of SCD with the epidural space in more detail. In conclusion, superior SCD should be considered for differential diagnoses in patients presenting with congenital hearing loss.

Can MRI replace CT in evaluating semicircular canal dehiscence?

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Patients with symptoms of semicircular canal dehiscence often undergo both CT and MR imaging. We assessed whether FIESTA can replace temporal bone CT in evaluating patients for SC dehiscence. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 112 consecutive patients (224 ears) with vestibulocochlear symptoms who underwent concurrent MR imaging and CT of the temporal bon...

Sound- and pressure-induced vertigo associated with dehiscence of the roof of the superior semicircular canal.

In many types of peripheral vertigo, imaging is not part of the initial evaluation. We present a patient with sound- and pressure-induced vertigo associated with bony dehiscence of the roof of the superior semicircular canal. The diagnosis of this new entity can only be made by high-resolution coronal CT imaging of the temporal bones. In patients with this symptom complex, CT should be performe...

[Superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome: report of three cases].

Superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome is a newly defined and rare disease. The disease shows itself with vertigo and nystagmus induced by loud noise and pressure. Vertigo and nystagmus induced by loud noise is named as Tullio's phenomenon and nystagmus induced by pressure is named as Hennebert's sign. The definitive diagnosis is made by the demonstration of bone defect in superior sem...

Computed tomography-based workup of conductive hearing loss with normal middle ear: don't forget superior semicircular canal dehiscence.

Patients with superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD) may have conductive hearing loss (CHL) with normal middle ear (ME). A patient with CHL and normal tympanic membrane at otoscopy underwent tympanotomy for presumed otosclerosis but had negative intraoperative findings. A high-resolution computed tomography (CT) scan of the temporal bone performed a few years later showed the absence of ...

Effect of semicircular canal dehiscence on contralateral canal bone thickness.

OBJECTIVES Our objective was to determine if the existence of dehiscence in the superior or posterior semicircular canal was associated with the thinning of the bone roof in the rest of the vertical canals (superior or posterior). METHODS The thickness of the superior and posterior semicircular canals contralateral to a dehiscence was studied using computerized tomography and compared statist...
